Man accused of murdering 15-year-old rejects plea deal

YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – Emotions ran high in Yuma Superior Court.

David Perez-Arzola, one of two twin brothers accused of being involved in the shootings of both boys aged 18 and 15, is on trial.

Perez-Arzola, 22, had previously been offered a plea bargain that carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

After some consideration, that plea bargain was dismissed in court today.

The mother of the murdered child spoke passionately in court.

She said she felt some sympathy for Perez Arzolla at first, but the moment he laughed in court, she said she saw evil, which changed her positive worldview.

Perez-Arzola’s parents have also appeared in court and have supported their son in every court appearance.

Perez-Arzola’s attorney defended the moment, saying he was inundated with harsh remarks made against him in court and that his reaction was typical of anyone facing false accusations.

Perez-Arzola, through his lawyers, claims that the stories presented are not true.

Judge Brandon Kinsey quickly denied the request.

Perez-Arzola then refused a plea bargain facing 25 years in prison.

His attorney asked if the state would permanently withdraw the petition.

Prosecution attorney Megan Gallagher said, “This is the state and that’s the answer!”

With no further plea deal on the table, the trial heads to court.

Judge Kinsey noted that life imprisonment is highly likely.

The hearing will continue on January 17th and KYMA will provide an update on its progress.
