Man Allegedly Kills Off-Duty Bus Driver And Two Dogs In Deadly Carjacking Spree

A Washington, D.C. man has been charged with shooting and killing an off-duty bus driver and two dogs in a carjacking incident on Sunday, police said in a statement.

Around 12:10 p.m. Prince George County Police Department The PGPD was informed of the crime after Ross reportedly stole a Honda CRV at gunpoint in Capitol Heights, Maryland. 7 news report. After stealing the Honda, Ross reportedly crashed it into a McDonald’s parking lot. Fox 5.

Ross then allegedly approached an Acura ILX in a McDonald’s drive-thru lane and shot the driver multiple times as he tried to steal the car, officials said. Police said the driver was an off-duty bus driver, Kurt Modeste, 56, who survived the assault and drove a short distance away, but was pronounced dead shortly after. After shooting Modeste, Ross allegedly stole a Toyota Scion that was also waiting in a drive-thru lane.Scion had three maltese dog Fox5 said Ross was shot inside. The third dog was not injured, the paper said.

Police from multiple agencies, including the PGPD, pursued Ross before he abandoned Scion and stole the GMC Terrain, officials said.

Shortly after the attack, Ross crashed into the GMC and engaged in a shootout with Capitol Heights police officers before being captured alive.

“My officers engaged the suspect on Sheriff Road in Washington DC and engaged in a shootout with the subject,” said Capitol Heights Police Chief. Darryl Morgan said. “Fortunately, neither party was attacked. We are grateful that the officers are able to return home to their families tonight.”

Fox5 reports that Ross has been charged with first and second degree murder, armed carjacking, assault, firearm offenses and aggravated cruelty to animals. He is being held without bail in Washington DC and will be extradited to Maryland, according to the media.
