24-year-old male involved in 7 YPD cases between 2017 and 2023
YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma Police Department (YPD) has announced major arrests following a multi-year investigation into multiple felonies across Yuma County.
Yuma Police have announced that 24-year-old Jesús Javier Ibarra Martinez Jr. is currently facing 42 felonies.
He has been in custody since February, but learned about these new charges on Tuesday.
YPD Police Chief Thomas Garrity said the crime was traced back to an attempted murder in May 2017.
The first case, in May 2017, involved a 32-year-old man who was shot in the back and seriously injured in the South Magnolia Avenue and West Third Street area.
The YPD said there were also residential buildings hit by gunfire in the areas of South Magnolia Avenue and West Main Canal Road.
The second incident occurred in February 2022, when a 31-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the 2nd and 5th Avenues area.
In the third incident, around 2 a.m. on January 21, 2023, three men held a 46-year-old man at gunpoint and stole a wallet, truck keys, and the victim’s 2005 Ford F150.
Later that morning, Yuma police received a call at about 4:20 a.m. about a 22-year-old man and a 35-year-old man with gunshot wounds at the Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC).
Yuma police said two other men approached the two victims, opened fire and drove off.
At about 4:42 a.m., Yuma police received a second call that an 18-year-old and two 17-year-olds with gunshot wounds had arrived at the YRMC.
Yuma police said the three victims were driving in a car when two other men started shooting.
The victims drove away and headed to the YRMC for treatment, two of whom were seriously injured.
Three days later, on January 24, 2023, around 2:00 am, a 2005 Ford F150 was stolen from the first victim’s residence, according to YPD.
Ybarra Martinez Jr. was identified as the person who shot all five victims and took the victims’ wallets and car keys.
The fourth incident occurred on January 28, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., near Food City on West 8th Avenue, during an armed robbery.
Two men were chased by two other men in a white car, Yuma police said.
The passenger in the passenger seat of the car pulled out a gray firearm and demanded the victim’s belongings.
The driver of the car hit a man on a motorcycle and knocked him over.
The fifth occurred on January 29, 2023, when a bullet impact damaged a home.
Officers found several bullet-damaged enclosures and homes and arrested teenage boys aged 16 and 17.
Yuma police found that Ybarra Martinez, Jr. drove both suspects to the scene and purchased the firearms used in the shooting.
Garrity said the crimes have since caused 16 victims, seven of whom have been shot, but no fatalities.
Garrity thanked the detectives for their hard work and added that he believed the city of Yuma was safer today.

Ybarra-Martinez is being held on $1.475 million bail.
