A 55-year-old man was recently arrested for impersonating a police officer in a dangerous situation on Interstate 17 south of Flagstaff on Monday. After a minor road assault incident, the suspect and victim exited the vehicle from Interstate 17 and stopped at an exit ramp. The suspect approached the victim’s vehicle with a holstered handgun in his right hand. During the discussion, the suspect said he was a police officer and an undercover detective responding to emergency calls. He told the victim he could go to jail for obstruction charges. When the victim demanded to see his badge, the suspect, Sean E. Osborne, got back in his car and drove off. The victim taped part of the incident and handed it over to DPS investigators. They identified the suspect as Osborne and arrested him on Tuesday. He was incarcerated in Coconino County Jail on charges of impersonating a police officer, possession of a weapon for a crime, disorderly conduct with a firearm, assault, threat or intimidation. DPS believes there may be more casualties from other incidents. Potential victims should call the AZDPS Service Office at (602) 223-2212.
