Yuma — A Yuma man has been arrested in seven cases by the Yuma police since 2017. Jesús Javier Ibarra-Martinez Jr. is wanted by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office and was the lead investigator in several cases in 2023.
Ybarra Martinez Jr. was spotted by our Special Operations Group on February 9, 2023. Officials notified his YCSO and Ybarra Martinez Jr. was arrested and arrested. Ybarra Martinez Jr. was detained and wanted by the YCSO and then questioned by YPD detectives regarding our case.
Through extensive investigations, interviews and forensics by our detectives, Ibarra-Martinez Jr. has been linked to seven YPD cases between 2017 and 2023. Jesús Javier Ibarra Martinez Jr. has been in custody since his arrest in February.

2017-38800: Attempted Murder
On Sunday, May 28, 2017, at approximately 5:11 a.m., the Yuma Police Department responded to the shooting in the area of South Magnolia Avenue and West 3rd Street. When police arrived, they found a 32-year-old man shot in the back.
The victim was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center with serious injuries and then to a Phoenix Area Hospital. An investigation revealed that a residential building on the 200 block of S. Magnolia Avenue had also been shot.
Ibarra Martinez Jr. was charged with attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a lethal weapon, one count of aggravated assault with serious injury, three counts of reckless involvement, and one count of participation in a criminal street gang.
2022-11269: Attempted Murder
On Saturday, February 26, 2022, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Yuma Police Department responded to a call that a person had been shot on 2nd and 5th Avenues.
Responding officers found a 31-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was then taken to a Phoenix area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Ibarra Martinez Jr. was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a dead weapon, aggravated assault with serious injury, and two counts of endangerment.
2023-4808, 4223, 4226: Armed robbery/attempted murder/attempted murder
At approximately 2 a.m. on January 21, 2023, police officers were dispatched to the 900 block on South 10th Avenue in connection with the vehicle theft.
An investigation revealed that three male subjects approached a 46-year-old man who was unlocking a 2005 Ford F150 on the 900 block of South 10th Avenue. Subjects pointed revolvers at victims and pointed them at muzzle. Subject stole his wallet and truck keys.
Later that morning, at approximately 4:20 a.m., officers from the Yuma Police Department received a call from the Yuma Regional Medical Center of two adult men with gunshot wounds. The ages of the victims were 22 and 35.
Investigations revealed that the two victims were in the 1300 block of West Ninth Avenue when they were approached by two men who opened fire and fled the scene in a car. The victim was seriously injured in the shooting.
At approximately 4:42 a.m., the Yuma Police Department received a second report of a shooting victim arriving at the YRMC. One 18-year-old adult and two 17-year-old boys.
An investigation revealed that the three men were driving through the Fifth and 17th Avenues area when two men started shooting. The victims drove away from the area and sought treatment at the YRMC. Two of the victims were seriously injured in the shooting.
Three days later, on January 24, 2023, at approximately 2:00 am, a 2005 Ford F150 was stolen from the first victim’s residence.
Ibarra Martinez Jr. was identified as the person who shot all five and took their wallets and car keys. Ibarra Martinez, Jr. was charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder, four counts of aggravated assault with serious injury, six counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of armed robbery with a lethal weapon, and two counts of serious injury. In these cases, he committed attempted robbery, one car theft, and two counts of knowingly inciting or inducing the involvement of others (gang-related).
2023-5834: Aggravated Assault
At approximately 9:30 pm on January 28, 2023, officers were dispatched to Food City at 1240 West 8th Street in connection with the reported armed robbery.
Arriving police found two men being chased in a white car. The passenger in the car pulled out a gray gun and demanded his belongings. The driver of the car deliberately crashed a man riding a motorcycle into the car and knocked him over. Victim reported minor injuries.
Ibarra Martinez Jr. was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted robbery.
2023-5883: Fire
On Sunday, January 29, 2023, the Yuma Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at Block 2200 on S. Walnut Avenue.
Arriving officers found several enclosures and residences damaged by bullet impact. There were no reports of injuries as a result of the incident. Police have arrested two men, aged 16 and 17, in connection with the incident.
An investigation revealed that Ibarra Martinez Jr. drove both suspects to the scene and purchased the firearms used in the shooting. Ibarra Martinez Jr. is charged with two counts of firing a firearm in a residential building, one count of participating in a criminal street gang, two counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, and one count of misconduct involving a weapon. was done.
A total of 16 people were killed, seven of whom were shot dead. Ibarra Martinez Jr. faces a total of 42 counts.
