A Lake Havasu man charged with assaulting an 83-year-old victim may accept a plea bargain with prosecutors at hearings next month.
Owen D. Williams, 18, is scheduled to appear at a change petition hearing on April 7 if he could be convicted. The Mojave County Probation Service has been ordered to produce a pre-sentencing investigation report to guide any possible judgments that may result from its hearings.
The hearing itself was requested earlier this month by the Mojave County Attorney’s Office on behalf of Williams.
Williams was arrested on June 6 along with a 15-year-old accomplice. I’m here. Investigators said Williams and his accomplice assaulted the victim and knocked him to the ground.
Police said the victim had a broken arm in the assault and was being treated at Havasu Regional Medical Center for a possible concussion. Williams and his associates are said to have fled the scene before first responders arrived.
Police in the City of Lake Havasu searched for the perpetrator’s vehicle based on eyewitness accounts and are said to have found it on London Bridge Beach the same night. Williams and his companion, identified as the sole occupants of the vehicle, were each held on one count of aggravated assault.
Williams was held at the Mojave County Jail on $3,500 bail and remained in custody as of Thursday. Police were unable to identify him because his companion was a minor, but he was reportedly transferred to the Mojave County Juvenile Detention Center.
Williams was charged on March 1 with the additional misdemeanor of serving alcohol to a minor, according to prison records.
