Man Dies After Reportedly Shooting At Pennsylvania State Troopers Answering A Call

Tragic Incident in Pennsylvania

A Pennsylvania State Police officer was killed during an incident in Thompson Township, Susquehanna County, on Thursday. Reports indicate that a male suspect opened fire on the responding officers, leading to injuries among two state troopers.

Troopers Joseph Peretinski and William Jenkins were both reportedly seriously hurt and were airlifted to a nearby medical facility for urgent care. This situation unfolded in a rural area around 11:00 am, as explained by state police Colonel Christopher Paris during a press briefing.

Authorities secured the area where the shooting took place. The suspect, armed with a rifle, allegedly did not comply with law enforcement and was ultimately shot and killed during the standoff.

The injured troopers are currently in stable condition at the hospital. Officials confirmed there’s no ongoing threat to the public, and the incident remains under investigation.

Paris mentioned that the troopers were responding to a welfare check when they encountered additional reports of shots fired. He described the incident as an immediate ambush, noting how fortunate they were to survive.

One of the troopers applied tourniquets to help their colleagues, while another intervened to assist. In terms of injuries, one trooper required surgery after being shot in both the chest and back, while another sustained injuries in the arm. It was reported that the troopers’ vehicle was also struck by gunfire.

As of Thursday afternoon, the identity of the suspect had not been disclosed.
