Mojave County, Arizona (ABC4) — A man has died after being engulfed in flames during a standoff with SWAT in northern Arizona, police said Thursday. Mohave County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).
According to MCSO, a house fire on Jan. 18 evolved into a fatality investigation.
Around 7 p.m., authorities were called to a report of a fire in the 3800 block of North Abra Road in Golden Valley, Arizona. Police responded to the scene and found a home and vehicle completely engulfed and a man walking around the property with his hands hidden.
Witnesses told police the man started several small fires, which caused most of the building to go up in flames.Lawmakers also learned: golden valley fire The man displayed a weapon and crews left the scene to ensure their safety.
SWAT and detectives were called to the scene, and officers ordered the man to show his hands, but he did not comply.
The person walked to a carport on the property, the release said. Shortly after, the carport was engulfed in flames.
When officers approached the residence, they found a man dead inside the carport.
The man's identity is not being released pending identification by police. Mohave County Coroner's Office.
“We would like to thank the Kingman Police Department for providing an overhead drone to assist in officer safety,” MCSO said in a release.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
