LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Police and firefighters responded to a Golden Valley, Ariz., home Thursday night after a man at the scene displayed a weapon, according to information from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office (MCSO). left the scene. .
Another fire then broke out under the carport and the man was found dead.
MCSO deputies said the initial report of the fire is currently under investigation into a fatality.
When officers arrived just after 7 p.m., they found the home fully engulfed in flames and a vehicle on fire. They also found a “male subject walking around the property with his hands hidden.”
Witnesses told officers that the man started several small fires that led to a larger blaze. When the Golden Valley Fire District arrived, the man displayed a weapon and they fled for safety.
SWAT and detectives were called to the scene, but when officers ordered the man to show his hands, he did not comply.
“Officers observed the male subject enter a carport on the property, which was then fully engulfed in flames. According to MCSO information, officers approached the residence. When police arrived at the scene, the man was found dead in the carport.
The man's name has not been released pending identification by the Mohave County Coroner's Office.
The investigation continues.
Kingman police also responded to the scene in the 3800 block of Abra Road, just northeast of the Golden Valley turnoff on Route 93. Kingman Police Department provided a drone to assist with officer safety.
