Man loses life while rescuing 2 boys from drowning in Arizona River

Man Dies While Rescuing Children from Colorado River

A 51-year-old man tragically lost his life over the weekend while trying to save two children in the Colorado River, as reported by local authorities.

The incident took place near Hidden Shores Resort in Yuma, Arizona, on Saturday, July 5th. According to local news sources, deputies from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene shortly after noon. A group was gathered on a sandbar at Horseshoe Island when the children were swept away by the current.

Rescue Attempt Ends in Tragedy

The man, identified as Jeffrey Brady, jumped into the water to aid the youngsters, as confirmed by Tania Pacrack, a spokesperson for the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office. He was trying to keep them afloat until help arrived.

Unfortunately, Brady struggled and did not resurface. A coordinated underwater search conducted by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office and several other agencies ultimately resulted in finding his body around 7 PM that same day.

Remembering Jeffrey Brady

Brady recently relocated from California to Yuma, where he had settled into a new home with his partner, Ellen, and his blind father. Friends remember him as someone with a “heart of gold.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to cover funeral costs and has raised over $88,000 as of Wednesday, July 9th. The fundraiser describes Brady as a selfless hero and provider, mentioning that the boys he saved were his girlfriend’s nephews.

“He was a giant of a man, but with a heart of gold,” reflected his friend Summer Needham. Another friend, Joanne Ripley, added that it was not surprising that Brady jumped in to help.
