A Colorado man convicted of pointing a gun at a fast-food worker has been sentenced to 143 years in prison, prosecutors announced Thursday, the Associated Press reported.
Eugene Robertson pointed a gun at a Burger King drive-thru employee in the Denver suburb of Aurora in October 2023 after he refused to take payment for drugs, then opened fire on others, police said. APCiting the prosecutor's statement:
Robertson, who faced a maximum sentence of more than 400 years in prison when he was sentenced on Aug. 9, was originally convicted of 17 charges in April, according to the Associated Press. His 143-year sentence was the result of a combination of many of these crimes, the outlet said.
“We believe this 143-year sentence is justice for the many victims he terrorized that night,” Eric Roth, a spokesman for 18th Judicial District Attorney John Kellner, said Friday. “The jury recognized the seriousness of the crimes the defendant committed, and we believe the judge imposed an appropriate sentence.”
According to the Associated Press, on the same night that Robertson pointed the gun at the Burger King employee, he also pointed the gun at a convenience store employee, then fired shots at the store's surveillance cameras before fleeing.
“There was something strange” about Robertson, a witness who claimed to have seen him at the convenience store told police. Sentinel Colorado According to the report, witnesses said Robertson was “talking about God” and had a Bible.
According to the Associated Press, Robertson came out of a convenience store and fired shots at two people in the parking lot, then went to a friend's apartment and fired more shots when the friend refused to open the door.
The friend called 911, and police arrived, found Robertson hiding in bushes and arrested him, according to the Associated Press.
No one was injured in the shooting, according to the media report.
