Officers said the man had a shotgun and was attempting to open a neighbor’s door when they arrived.
YUMA, Ariz. — A man was hospitalized Monday after being shot by a Yuma County sheriff’s deputy, according to the sheriff’s office.

Around 11:48 a.m. Monday, deputies were called to the area of 12 1/2 Street in W County on a report of a man with a gun.
When officers arrived, they found a 51-year-old man with a shotgun screaming and trying to open the door of a neighbor’s house, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the man refused to comply with verbal commands and pointed a shotgun at the deputies.
Deputies opened fire on the man, striking him. He was transported by Rural Metro to Onvida Health with serious injuries.
The Yuma Regional Critical Incident Response Team has been activated to handle the investigation.
No deputies were injured in the incident.
