Coconino County, Arizona – A missing persons investigation in Coconino County resulted in a gunfight near Jacob Lake that left one person dead.
Law enforcement officials reportedly searched for Russell Vinton, a 66-year-old Prescott resident, according to a press release. do not have by his wife.
On Oct. 8, Vinton’s truck and camper were not found at the campground, but other items were found to further the investigation.
The next day, Vinton’s truck was reported in the suburbs. Lake Havasu City. When officers arrived at the truck, a person inside the vehicle fired shots at them.
The man in the truck was identified as Patrick Neal Champion, 61, of Tennessee.

An unidentified detective suffered minor injuries but was later released from the hospital.
A third man who was camping with Vinton is safe and is not believed to be a suspect in the disappearance.
Vinton was found dead on October 10th. The sheriff’s office said they are still searching for his white 2017 trailer with Arizona license plate 5LA50N.
