Tucson, Arizona (13 News) – A Cochise County man faces multiple charges for allegedly shooting law enforcement and first responders in Tombstone late Thursday, April 20.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said 70-year-old Curtis Wayne Weberg was in custody on seven charges each of aggravated assault on a security officer and aggravated assault with a lethal weapon.
Weiberg made his first court appearance Friday morning and is being held on $500,000 bail.
The incident began at a trailer and RV park near 13 North 7th Street in Tombstone.A shelter-in-place order was issued around 7 p.m., but lifted by 9 p.m.
Officials responded to a medical emergency call in Webberg’s RV at approximately 6:28 p.m., according to Marshal Tombstone’s office. When paramedics arrived, Webberg allegedly fired at least 24 shots.
Authorities said it was unclear if Webberg had opened fire before they arrived or if he started after seeing them.
Law enforcement returned no fire and no injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing and more charges may be filed.
