Man Who Fatally Shot Mail Carrier Over Failed Marijuana Delivery Receives Life Sentence

A South Carolina man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for shooting a mailman for failing to deliver marijuana.

Trevor Raequon Seward, 25, was convicted of other crimes related to the September 2019 murder of a federal employee and the tragic shooting of 64-year-old Irene Presley. Presley was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in rural Williamsburg County. according to to Fox News.

The incident occurred when Seward found a note in his mailbox instructing him to pick up a large package of marijuana from the local post office instead of having it delivered to his home. After failing to find the expected two-pound package of marijuana in the mailbox, Seward requested a package from Presley, which Presley refused, the report said. Armed with a semi-automatic rifle, Seward waited on Andrews’ road as Presley drove past and opened fire on the mail truck, firing about 20 rounds from the rear of the vehicle. Several bullets hit Presley. After the shooting, Seward reportedly drove the mail truck into a ditch and searched inside for packages and other valuables, leaving Presley’s body in the truck.

A packet of marijuana was later found on the street at the murder scene, Fox News reported, according to court records.

At Thursday’s sentencing hearing, Seward said he “didn’t want to cause any more confusion.” “He has nothing to say,” the magazine said.
