Manson Family Murderer Released On Parole After 53 Years In Prison

Manson Family member Leslie Van Houten, 73, was released on parole on Tuesday.

Van Houten spent more than 50 years in prison for his involvement in the 1969 murders of Reno La Bianca and Rosemary La Bianca.

After Charles Manson and fellow cultist Charles Watson broke into the couple’s home and tied them up, Manson summoned Van Houten and another man to come inside and listen to Watson’s instructions. Watson orders them to kill Rosemary while he kills Leno. Van Houten said he held Rosemary over her head with her pillowcase while Rosemary’s co-conspirator fatally stabbed her. Van Houten will go to an intermediate facility where he will learn how to drive, shop for groceries and get a debit card, his lawyer said.

“She has to learn how to use the internet,” her lawyer said, according to the Associated Press. She said, “She has to learn to buy things without cash. It’s a completely different world than it was when she entered.”
