Manufacture Alabama elects new members to board of directors – ‘exceptional individuals’



Manufactured in Alabama From the most well-known international corporations to small, family-owned businesses, we represent hundreds of companies essential to the economy of Alabama and around the world.

The group announced the election of two new members to its board of directors, including International Paper's Donna Jackson and Airbus' Craig Savage. The board also approved the appointment of Karen Johnston of Toyota North America as vice chairman.

John Berganier, president and CEO of Manufacture Alabama, said he is excited about the changes.

“These outstanding individuals bring diverse expertise and valuable perspectives to our association's leadership,” Barganier said. “Their contributions will further strengthen our ability to serve the interests of our members across the state.”

“I am confident that Karen, Craig and Donna will provide the leadership needed to strengthen our mission to make Alabama the best state in the country for manufacturing to flourish.”

Below are the new members, their responsibilities to date, and their reactions to being appointed to the Board.

Karen Johnston Regional Director for Toyota Government North America

Mr. Johnston is responsible for monitoring and influencing state legislative policy issues that affect Toyota and its operations in the Midwest and Southeast. Throughout her 22-year career with Toyota, she has held various roles in government affairs, corporate communications, and human resources.

“It is an honor to serve as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of a great organization that values ​​its members, increases opportunities for Alabama manufacturers, and makes Alabama a place where manufacturing thrives,” said Johnston. . “I look forward to continued collaboration with John, his team, and the entire board.”

donna jackson Regional Communications Manager, International Paper – Platteville

Ms. Jackson has been a key member of the Platteville plant's lead team since 2015, providing strategic communications leadership and overseeing community relations strategy. She is an active member of her local community, serving on various committees and in 2023 became Chair of the Alabama Manufacturing Communications Commission.

“Since 2015, I have enjoyed participating in Manufacture Alabama’s member activities as part of my role at IP,” said Jackson. “I am honored to be asked to join the board and look forward to continuing to support the great work this organization is leading on behalf of the state’s manufacturers.”

craig savage Airbus National/Regional Secretary

In his role at Airbus, Mr. Savage focuses on business strategy, government relations, community engagement and economic development for the Southeastern United States region. Over his 25-year career, Craig has worked for companies in the defense, energy, and entertainment sectors. He also serves as a reserve public affairs officer for Air Force Special Operations Command.

“Manufacturing Alabama has been an important resource for me and the companies I have represented in the aerospace and defense space,” Savage said. “I look forward to joining the exceptional leadership team that has built Manufacture Alabama into one of the state’s premier advocacy organizations.”
