Margot Robbie broke her silence about her disdain for the Academy Award-winning film “Barbie” during a panel discussion at a special Screen Actors Guild screening in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The film's lead actress was not nominated for an Oscar for the highest-grossing film of 2023, nor was the film's director, Greta Gerwig. The blockbuster film received eight nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards, but Robbie was left out of the Best Actress category, prompting an immediate outcry from her fans. Robbie spoke on the subject for the first time during a panel discussion, but her focus was on Gerwig rather than herself.
Robbie's co-star, Ryan Gosling, was nominated for an Oscar.
The famous actress has chosen to remain positive about the overall experience.
“When you know how blessed you are, you can't be sad,” Robbie said.
She went on to say, “I'm beyond thrilled to have been nominated for eight Academy Awards. It's truly amazing.”
And Robbie turned the spotlight on Gerwig.

“Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated for director, because what she did was once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime, and she did it, and it really is. “But this year has been a great year for all movies,'' she said.

Robbie said the film itself is “bigger than us” and “bigger than our industry,” speaking about the film's impact on theaters and the response from fans. (Related: Whoopi speaks out about 'Barbie' disrespect allegations, but her reaction was unexpected)
“We set out to do something that would change the culture, influence the culture, have some impact, and that's already happening, and some of it is happening. It's so much better than I ever dreamed of. And that's really the biggest reward from all of this,” Robbie said.
