Maricopa constable eyes judge vacancy

Maricopa District 4 Officer Glen Morrison wants to run for Justice of the Peace in the November general election.

Morrison, a resident of Rancho El Dorado, has filed a statement of interest with the Pinal County Elections Department to run as a Republican in the Aug. 6 primary election. He is so far the only candidate who shares an interest in running for the Peace and Justice position.

“I'm happy to say there's been tremendous support from the local community,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said, adding that he had received many calls from people encouraging him to run.

The Pinal County Board of Supervisors on January 2 accepted the resignation of Judge Lyle Riggs, who resigned after completing a two-year term on the Maricopa Court of Justice. Mr. Riggs has been with the Maricopa Courthouse since 2014.

Supervisors are currently accepting applications to temporarily fill Riggs' former bench spot. The interim appointee's term runs until the Nov. 5 general election and must be a Republican, Riggs' party. The supervisory authority is scheduled to decide on a supplementary judgment after March 20th.

Morrison, 64, who has lived in Maricopa since 2009, said he is one of the applicants for the temporary judge position.

As a Maricopa resident, Mr. Morrison received training in conflict resolution and de-escalation while serving as a volunteer with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office for many years. He was also a real estate agent, but that career ended after he was elected constable.

As a candidate for Maricopa-Stanfield District Constable, Morrison said, “Through a lifetime of experience in business management and law enforcement, I have learned that it is extremely important to convey respect and compassion to all individuals.” Ta. Therefore, I am uniquely qualified in communication, collaboration, team building, and public safety. ”

Morrison listed several charities he is involved with, including the ASPCA, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Red Cross and other community service nonprofits.

He has been a volunteer with the Sheriff's Office for over 13 years.

“I see it all, the good and the bad,” Morrison told InMaricopa today about his time with the sheriff’s office and his six years as a constable.

He said there were many similarities between the roles of security force constables and justice.

“Everything I do as a constable and everything I do as a magistrate ultimately has a positive outcome,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he had approached Riggs about finding a replacement and was pleased to learn that the former Maricopa judge would run.
