Maricopa County, Arizona — Maricopa County officials were barred from participating in viral dances and challenges after the county board of overseers banned TikTok from all county-owned devices on Wednesday.
A county representative said, “This affects all employees using county-owned devices in departments under the Board of Oversight.” “These employees should remove Tik Tok from devices used for county business.”
The vote came after the May 5 deadline set by Governor Katie Hobbs’ executive order banning the use of apps on all state-owned devices. Hobbes’ order was a response to President Biden’s pressure to ban federal contractors from using the app on official devices and networks.
The county is the most recent Arizona government agency to enact this ban. Arizona State University and the University of Arizona were forced to deactivate their TikTok accounts because of Hobbes’ ban.
