A permanent home for a Maricopa food truck is under construction.

Maricopa-based Verily Enterprises LLC filed paperwork this month to establish a food truck park in the city's Heritage District.

The park, named Maricopa Eats, is located at the southwest corner of Honeycutt Road and Plainview Street and is currently a half-acre vacant lot. It will house more than a dozen food trucks, picnic tables on artificial turf and parking, according to the project description.

Owner Jose Meza said he wanted to create a “clean and safe environment” for his food truck, especially as he's struggled to find space to park and sell food these days. .

In recent months, several food truck owners have experienced difficulty establishing a long-term presence in the city. In July, more than a dozen people faced eviction from the Fry's Marketplace parking lot due to a dispute with the property owner.

Meza hopes the park will solve some of these problems.

“lots of [food truck operators] We want to give them a safe place because there are problems in certain places,” he said. “It's clean and family-friendly.”

Meza added that he expects the space to also host farmers markets, craft fairs and other similar community events in the area.

“We just want to provide a positive environment for the families here,” he said. “I've talked to some of the neighbors and they're really excited about this.”

The application has not yet been reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Commission.
