Maricopa High Marching Rams finish 4th in state

GLENDALE — Maricopa High School's Marching Rams finished among the state's top eight high school bands at the state championship fourth Saturday.

“They did a great job,” said band director Ivan Poole. “This year was the best.”

The state championship was held at Glendale Community College. There, the Marching Rams competed against Arizona's best marching bands.

Pour has coached the MHS band for over 15 years.

This is the second time since 2010 that the Marching Rams have competed in the ABODA Championship. ABODA stands for Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association.

The band recently placed third in the semi-finals, earning an excellent rating and a score of 79.913. This score was a program record for highest overall score in a marching competition. This was the first top-three finish in the state-level competition in program history.

The Maricopa High School band has finished competing this year, but is now focusing on concerts and some MHS basketball games.

The Actin Masik Tas Right Parade is scheduled for Dec. 9, and the Fiesta Bowl Parade will be held in downtown Phoenix on Dec. 16, with Rams cheer squads in attendance.
