Maricopa, Arizona — More Residents Buying Homes in New Construction Developments Maricopa They are coming forward and raising concerns about the quality of their homes.

12News first reported on the issue raised by residents last month, but lawmakers are now taking their views into consideration.

“Five years. How long will it take for the house to settle down?”

“We moved into this house on March 6, 2019,” said Mary Silveira.

Mary Silveira has lived in Maricopa’s house in the homestead community built by Dr. Horton for over four years. We might add her to the list of Maricopa residents who say her experience in her new dream home was close to her nightmare.

“It’s just frustrating. You’re spending so much time. You’re constantly worried about a lot of things going wrong, so you can’t enjoy your home,” Silveira said.

Silveira said during the final walkthrough, she was asked to make a list of the flaws she found. The list was longer than she had prepared.

“The first paper I wrote down didn’t have enough lines, so I had to get another one,” Silveira said.

She said that while the minor issue was resolved, the larger issue was not fixed and continues to occur.

The crack in the ceiling has already been ‘fixed’ twice, but each time it has cracked again.

Dr. Horton said they have been in touch with Silveira and plan to complete the drywall repairs on Wednesday and return for installation on July 11.

“Why wait five years to get the job done?” said Silveira.

Dr. Horton provided 12News with the following emailed statement:

Lawmakers Respond to Residents’ Complaints

12 News took the residents’ complaints to two members of Congress representing Maricopa, State Senator TJ Shope and State Representative Keith Seaman.

“While many of the residents who have purchased these homes now have raised questions about their quality, are you concerned that they are being built at such a rapid pace?” asked 12News’ Bianca Buono.

“Of course I’m worried about that. It sounds like we need to fix the whole thing before we move on,” Seaman said.

“This is the first time, especially in the last year or so, that we have noticed that the pace of housing construction is probably at the same pace that was seen in the mid-2000s,” Schop said.

“[Residents] They say they didn’t deliver what they promised. How do you handle their complaints?” Buono asked.

“I obviously sympathize with these people, I mean, this is most likely the biggest investment you’ll ever make in your life,” Schop said. “And we want to make sure that the product is correct.

“What is the message for you? [residents] be? ‘ asked Buono.

“I’m sorry. I don’t apologize because it’s not my fault. But I’ll look into it. Hopefully, I’ll get something, and maybe if I talk to my colleagues this summer during next term, we’ll get something done.” We can,” Seaman said.

Both lawmakers said they were open to exploring options to better protect buyers.

Experts say the best course of action at this time is to file a complaint with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors if you have a problem with the home or its builder.
