PHOENIX — Maricopa County officials expect several women who overdosed in a Phoenix prison to survive.
Sheriff Paul Penzone said in a statement that seven women held at Estrella Prison suffered a drug overdose on Friday.
The Phoenix Fire Department has confirmed that a firefighter has responded to prison for an overdose.
Penzone said the type of drug and how it was obtained is still under investigation. But sheriffs say they suspect they took fentanyl.
Additional officers are sent to jail to search all pods for contraband.
