Police have confirmed that a 16-year-old boy is being treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds following an altercation at Homestead Park last night.
Around 10:30 p.m., an unidentified teen flagged down an officer and was injured by gunfire, Maricopa Police Department spokeswoman Monica Williams said. They said they found the teenage boy and tried to call 911.
The victim told police he had gone to the park earlier that night and an altercation occurred. An “unidentified suspect” shot the boy and fled before officers arrived.
Police did not say what led to the altercation or the location of the victim's wounds, but confirmed the boy was being treated at a Valley hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division are currently investigating the incident. Inmaricopa Reporters at the scene learned that detectives were planning to fingerprint an unused bullet found at the scene.
