MARJORIE DANNENFELSER: 2 Years After Dobbs, Pro-Life Movement’s Work Has Just Begun

Two years after the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision, the pro-life movement has made great strides as Americans and Congress finally gained the freedom to protect life. But as with every human rights movement in our nation's history, this monumental victory does not mark the end of our mission, but merely signals a new beginning.

The road ahead will be filled with challenges and threats, and we will not rest until babies and mothers across America are safe.

First, some great news: 24 states have laws that protect fetuses before 15 weeks, and 20 of those protect them from the time a fetal heartbeat can be detected. As of May, this includes Florida's heartbeat protection law. Combined, these laws protect 200,902 fetuses per year, up from last year.

What's important is that states are combining strong protections with additional supports for mothers and families: This year, 14 states passed new laws to strengthen the pro-life safety net, including funding for pregnancy centers, child care assistance, and extending Medicaid to new mothers.

These laws will make a huge difference in the world. Women like Nishacredits heartbeat protection in her hometown of Georgia with saving her son. When Neesha, a single mother of four and a previous abortion survivor, became pregnant again, her first thought was to call an abortion center. But restrictions on abortions where a fetal heartbeat can be detected in Georgia led her to look for alternatives. Her search led her to an adoption agency that was with her every step of the way, even when she lost her job. Now, she is in an open adoption and has a loving relationship with her son and the family she chose to raise him with.

These stories of life and love are true, but they rarely make it into the news. Every life benefit is more precious given a hostile media establishment that is happy to re-advertise the abortion lobby's talking points. Two years later, the lie that pro-life laws somehow prevent doctors from treating women who suffer miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, or life-threatening pregnancy complications persists. Denied in all states And it was refuted with clear guidance. The rise of “medical education” policies.

Much remains to be done to address the real and complex needs that drive women to seek abortions. Governors and other leaders are working to address these issues, with projects such as: Her PLAN is a campaign to help both partiesis doing heroic work on this front, but this problem is bigger than any individual state’s.

With over half of abortions induced using medication today, the recent Supreme Court decision allowing President Biden to continue his abortion pill by mail policy is a disappointing setback. Even the Food and Drug Administration acknowledges that these drugs send 1 in 25 women to the hospital. Yet many Democratic-leaning states continue to back abortion doctors who break other states' laws and deliver the pills to unlicensed locations, even to minors without their parents' knowledge.

Planned Parenthood is now Distributing these high-risk medicines through an app“There's no direct interaction with doctors at all.” If you're dealing with an abuser or trafficker, there's no one to actually check. The fight isn't over yet. Attorneys general in Idaho, Kansas and Missouri are looking to take on the challenge, based on the harms suffered by women in their states.

In seven states, pro-lifers must block proposed constitutional amendments (funded by the far left) that, if passed in their entirety, would endanger nearly 55,000 lives each year. Because pro-life lawyers are crafting language that hides their true impact, it is crucial that we educate voters about how these amendments guarantee abortion, take away parental rights, and undermine women's health and safety.

Addressing these ongoing challenges requires leadership at both the state and national levels, including through legislation that: How to protect mothers and babiesA bill proposed by Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi and Republican Representative Bob Latta of Ohio to block rollbacks of safety standards for dangerous abortion pills. The bill should include minimum national standards to prevent late-term abortions at least up to the point where a baby can feel pain. Public opinion polls have consistently shown this to be the case. Approximately 70% of Americans support.

America should be a leader on human rights. Align policies with countries like China and Vietnam There are no federal protections for the unborn at any time.

None of this will happen if President Joe Biden is re-elected and Democrats take full power in Washington this November.

Even worse, this may be our last chance to celebrate its life-saving impact. Dobbs And it's everything the pro-life movement has spent the last 50 years trying to accomplish. Congressional Democrats are constantly trying to inject abortion into every aspect of government and weaken pro-life protections, from turning veterans' hospitals into abortion hubs to suing states to force emergency room doctors to perform abortions. Democratic senators have introduced bills to close pregnancy support centers. Donated approximately $370 million In 2022, there will be mostly free goods and services for women, children, and families, while Biden's weaponized Justice Department is busy putting peaceful pro-life advocates in jail. Numerous attacks Officials from pregnancy centers and pro-life organizations have gone uncharged.

meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi's oath Democrats would use the “nuclear option” to repeal the Senate's 60-vote rule that mandates abortion on demand, over Republican objections, despite their protestations that they simply want to reinstate Roe v. Wade., The Democrats' signature bill, the misleadingly named Women's Health Protection Act, goes even further by banning pro-life protections and forcing late-term abortion on demand for any reason into every state across the country. They promise an all-out attack on the unborn and all alternatives to abortion, and we must take them seriously.

Lest the situation seem hopeless, there are known antidotes to pro-abortion extremism. For pro-life candidates to win against millions of dollars in Democratic ad spending, they need to do three things: They must go on the offensive and expose their inability to specify the abortion restrictions Democrats support, and they must combine that with compassionate safety-net policies for women and children, such as those proposed by Republican Senator John F. Kennedy and others. Marco Rubio Florida and Katie Britt They need to put in enough money to get their message heard in Alabama and on the radio.

When they do, message tests in battleground states show a 9.2% increase in net support for candidates. SBA Pro-Life America is doing their part, investing $92 million to reach 10 million voters in the eight battleground states that will determine control of Congress and the White House. They just need to get past the consultant-class advice to ignore the abortion issue, because it's not going to go away.

There has never been a more hopeful or dangerous moment for the American pro-life movement than this year's election, but with courage, determination, and a winning strategy, we can and will give life the fighting chance it deserves.
