Charlie Kirk on Cracker Barrel Logo Controversy
Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk appeared on Fox News recently and commented on the failed rebranding of the Cracker Barrel logo, suggesting it highlighted how disconnected elites can be from their customer base.
On Tuesday, Cracker Barrel announced it would revert to its classic logo after facing significant backlash. During his appearance on “Ingraham’s Angle,” Kirk likened this situation to President Donald Trump’s approach, stating, “Trump basically opposes everything Democrats promote.” He argued that this dynamic mirrors Cracker Barrel’s logo debacle, pointing to the swift backlash that forced them to reconsider.
Kirk noted that the differing opinions are indicative of what ultimately influences success—be it through votes or consumer spending. He pointed out how the elite often misjudge the sentiments of the broader population. “It’s a clear example of how these out-of-touch elites make decisions that backfire,” he said.
He went on to say that the attempts by both Democrats and certain brands, including Cracker Barrel, to cater to niche opinions can lead to discontent among a more traditional customer base. “Trying to sell products or gain votes by aligning with a small, disconnected segment can backfire,” he commented.
The controversy, according to Kirk, is part of a larger trend. He suggested that the very elites who misread the Cracker Barrel situation are also those who believe voters in Pennsylvania will rally behind figures like Kamala Harris.
Cracker Barrel had attempted a rebranding, unveiling a simpler logo that omitted its familiar “old timer” character, Uncle Herschel. The company announced that this new design, featuring its signature gold and brown colors, would be used in marketing, but the immediate backlash was severe.
Following the announcement, reports indicated that Cracker Barrel’s market value plummeted by nearly $100 million, with stocks dropping significantly. Critics on social media labeled the change as unnecessary.
Trump also weighed in, criticizing the company for its decision and urging them to revert to the old logo based on customer feedback. He emphasized, “Cracker Barrel needs to recognize its mistakes and focus on winning back customer support.”
