Thatcher City resident Marlo Glenn Woods, 87, passed away in the early hours of May 10, 2023 at his home in Thatcher City. Glenn was born on September 21, 1935, to Bailey Rae of Thatcher and Eileen Leighton Woods.

Glenn attended public schools from kindergarten through high school and graduated from Thatcher High School in 1953. After high school he attended Eastern Arizona University, graduating in 1955. At the time, Glenn was called to serve two and a half years. He is an annual missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Finland. Glenn’s father resumed activity in the church during his mission, after which his parents served missions in West Virginia.

Upon his return, Glenn enrolled at Arizona State University, earning a bachelor’s degree majoring in advertising and journalism. Because of his interest in teaching, which developed in his missionary field, he returned to the Faculty of Education and obtained a teaching certificate. While he was at his ASU, he met a special young woman named Linda Lloyd, and a relationship began shortly after. On September 9, 1960, Glenn and Linda were married at the Mesa LDS Temple.

Glenn’s first teaching position was at Queen Creek at the Arizona Boys’ Ranch and then at Mesa School. He earned his master’s degree from Arizona State University and moved into the field of educational administration as assistant principal at his Palo Verde school in Phoenix. While working as the principal of Orangewood School, an opportunity arose to accept a position in Glenn’s hometown of Thatcher. As his family grew to his nine children, Glenn felt that a smaller community might be better for their growth and success. The Woods family moved to Thatcher in 1980, and Glenn served as principal of both Jack Daly Elementary School and Thatcher Elementary School until his retirement in 1997.

Glenn is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many callings. While in Phoenix, Glenn served in the stake mission, the Glendale Stake ’70s Quorum Presidency, and served as Second Counselor in the 36th Ward Bishopric. In County Thatcher, Glenn served twice as a counselor in three dioceses and as Bishop of Thatcher’s 1st Ward. He twice served on the Thatcher Stake High Council. After his retirement, Glenn and Linda served together at the Mesa Temple for five years. In October 2005, they were called to the Family and Church History Mission in the Guest Services Area of ​​Salt Lake City, Utah. After returning from their missions, they served in the Gila Valley Temple for many years. During this time, Glenn was called Patriarch of the Thatcher Stake. All six of Glenn’s sons served missions in Argentina, Florida, Chile (two), Louisville, Kentucky, and Idaho.
