University Beach Resort Planned for Northport
A new resort and entertainment complex, University Beach, is set to be developed in Northport, featuring the Marriott Sign Collection as its luxury hotel brand.
The hotel will offer 144 rooms and suites, making it the first high-end property in the Tuscaloosa area. It’s envisioned to be central to a larger 77-acre University Beach project, which will also include residential areas, shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and a water park designed for interaction.
According to the announcement, Aimbridge Hospitality will manage the hotel, while Harrison Construction, based in Northport, has been selected as the builder. Construction is anticipated to start in early 2026, with the opening aimed for fall 2027.
The hotel is set to feature 132 king and queen rooms and 12 waterfront suites that come with private balconies. In addition, guests can look forward to a resort-style infinity pool, access to a private beach, various dining and bar options, a fitness center, concierge services, and event spaces suitable for weddings and meetings.
According to a study from Hotel & Leisure Advisors, the entire University Beach project could create nearly 700 jobs directly in Northport and is expected to generate over $250 million in urban tax revenue, around $210 million in county tax revenue, and more than $530 million in state tax revenue over a span of 30 years.
The developer stated that University Beach aims to infuse coastal charm into Alabama, conveniently located just a short distance from the University of Alabama.
While the plans have been approved and made public, construction for University Beach has not yet commenced, as the project remains in the planning and preparatory phases.
