Marsha Blackburn Begins Campaign for Governor

Marsha Blackburn Announces Candidacy for Tennessee Governor

On Wednesday, Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn declared her intention to run for governor of Tennessee.

Having served in the U.S. Senate since January 2019, Blackburn stated in her announcement that she aims to “energize parents” and combat what she refers to as the “deep state” to foster job creation, enhance energy production, and improve the education system. She also expressed intentions to address illegal immigration and uphold the Constitution and the value of life.

In her campaign launch video, Blackburn expressed her love for Tennessee, saying, “I believe in Tennessee. And we are ready to offer a kind of conservative leadership that ensures that our state is a conservative leader in America for this and the next generation. I am Marsha Blackburn. I am running for governor.”

Blackburn is the third sitting senator to announce a gubernatorial run as the midterm elections approach in 2026, joining Democrat Michael Bennett from Colorado and Republican Tommy Tuberville from Alabama, who made their announcements earlier this year.

If elected, Blackburn would have the opportunity to appoint her successor since her current Senate term extends until 2031.

On her campaign website, Blackburn outlines a comprehensive plan addressing various political issues, such as protecting women’s sports, curbing illegal immigration, challenging China, reinforcing parental rights, and backing the agenda of former President Donald Trump.

Prior to her time in the Senate, Blackburn served in the Tennessee Senate and later represented Tennessee’s 7th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. She made history in 2018 by becoming the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Tennessee.
