Matt Lauer's daughter Romy crashed her car and fled the scene, but left her license plate number behind, sources say.

Romy crashed her Jeep Wrangler in the Hamptons over the Fourth of July weekend, but was unable to stay at the scene, the suit states. Page 6Initial reports said she struck a fence and a sign during the crash, causing her license plate to come off during the accident, a source said. Southampton Town Police were reportedly able to identify Romy from the license plate. Authorities issued her a summons for fleeing the scene of an accident, police told Page Six.

A source told Page Six that concerned neighbors called police after hearing a loud noise at 4 a.m. on July 5. A 911 call was reportedly made and police were dispatched to the scene on North Sea Mecox Road.

When police arrived at the scene, they noticed damage to a sign and a fence and were able to locate the license plate, but there was no sign of the driver or vehicle at the scene of the collision, sources told the media.

Police have issued fines and prominent lawyer Edward Burke Jr. has already been hired to defend the former “Today” host's daughter, according to sources familiar with the matter.

According to Page Six, a source said Burke Jr. is “currently involved in the case and is working with the court to reach a resolution on Mr. Lauer's behalf.”

Burke is well known for representing many VIP clients, including Justin Timberlake, Matt Lauer and Lizzy Grubman.

Lauer's daughter posted a TikTok of herself going out with two friends to a sushi restaurant called Kisaki in Water Mill on the evening of July 4th, which Page Six reports is located just around the corner from where the accident occurred. No further details were provided about the circumstances that may have led to the crash.
