Transition Team Announced by Hoover’s New Mayor

On Thursday, Mayor Nick Deltzis revealed the establishment of a transition team aimed at building a strong foundation for his administration and charting a clear direction for Hoover. This team comprises a diverse mix of leaders from various sectors, including business, education, public safety, and civic life, all of whom are deeply invested in the city and its residents.

“We’re eager to introduce this impressive group of individuals who will steer Hoover through this critical transition,” Mayor Deltzis remarked. “Each member brings their own expertise, vision, and genuine commitment to our community, embodying Hoover’s strengths from our schools to our businesses and civic institutions.”

The transition team will concentrate on essential areas like education and workforce development, public safety, economic growth, infrastructure, financial accountability, parks and recreation, and overall quality of life. Their responsibilities will ensure the new administration is ready to deliver results right from day one while upholding high service standards for Hoover’s citizens.

The group convened for the first time on Wednesday, September 3rd, and is already making strides on behalf of the Hoover community. “This lays the groundwork for a seamless and effective start for the new administration,” the team stated.

Chairing the entire transition team is Michael J. Davis, with BJ Ellis serving as vice-president. Legal guidance will be provided by Charlie Waldrep of Esq.

Kermit Kendrick will spearhead the Education Workforce Development Committee, which includes Dr. Jennifer Hogan, Craig Kelly, Dr. Tyler Burgess, and Elizabeth Tanner.

The Public Safety and Urban Services Commission will be headed by Frank Barfield, with assistance from Craig Caldwell and Allen Putty.

Don Irwin will lead the Economic Development Committee, collaborating with Greg Barker, Commissioner Mike Bolin, and Alan Puckett.

Scott Promer, holding a PE and MBA, will oversee the Water and Transport Infrastructure Committee alongside Lanier Brown and Dewayne Smith.

Melinda Lopez will direct the Transparency, Risk, and Financial Accountability Committee, with support from Steve Lawrence and Frank Long.

In the realm of sports, tourism, and recreation, Pete Derzis and Craig Moss will co-chair the respective committee, working closely with Tynette Lynch and Greg Blackman.

David Bannister will lead the Quality of Life, Beautification, and Civic Engagement Committee with the support of David Cohen, Glenn Dauro, Sanjay Patel, Kim Sterling, Scott Underwood, and Ralph Williams.

Mayor Deltzis will formally assume office on Monday, November 3rd. Before his election, he served as Hoover’s police chief for over two decades, becoming known for his steady leadership and commitment to the community. He campaigned on enhancing transparency at City Hall and establishing Hoover as a model of excellence in Alabama.
