MCAO news conference on recent investigations

Phoenix (3TV/CBS 5) — Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell hosted a regularly scheduled press conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss the murder of the Queen Creek teen Preston Road and several others in the East Valley. It provided updates on recent investigations, including teen violence cases.

MCAO is still examining evidence in the Preston Road murder investigation. Mitchell said everyone in her office working on the case and the Queen Creek Police Department held a meeting last week.

“It was a big room and it was packed,” she said. She added: “We want you to know that we continue to cooperate with the ongoing investigation and continued review of the cases that have been submitted.”

In late December, Queen Creek police charged a total of seven juveniles and adults in connection with Lord's death. Since then, her staff has reviewed more than 2,000 pieces of digital evidence of her, including more than 600 videos. On Wednesday morning, Lord's parents released a statement that said in part that she was “working patiently to ensure the best possible outcome” in the case.

The county attorney also cited other teen violence-related arrests in the East Valley, specifically in Gilbert and Mesa. Most recently, three people were charged with serious assault in connection with a 2022 attack in a Gilbert parking lot.

Mitchell said her office has received 29 citations from Gilbert and Mesa police, involving 19 suspects (13 adults and six juveniles). It is said that there is So far, six adults and one juvenile have been charged in connection with the assaults committed by Gilbert and Mesa.
