BULLHEAD CITY – Thanks to Mohave Community College’s new woodworking class, Tristate residents have the opportunity to learn skills that will help them enter the homebuilding industry.
There are still spaces available for the two carpentry orientation meetings scheduled for Tuesday, February 21st in Room 506 on the Bullhead City campus. The first meeting starts at 11:00 am and the second starts at 5:00 pm.

The introductory woodworking class begins March 20 and addresses the basics of construction site safety, proper use of hand and power tools, framing, flooring, roofing, and drywall.
Carpentry instructor Dan Underwood has nearly 50 years of experience in the construction industry, during which time he has amassed a portfolio of projects including dozens of homes, 40-unit condominiums, and country club renovations.
“Our goal is for students who successfully complete this program to become qualified apprentices with artisan-level skills,” says Underwood. “Students graduating from this program will be skilled and productive from day one on the job and will be in high demand in the industry.”
As communities in Mojave County became a destination, obtaining affordable housing became a challenge. In 2020, median household income for Mojave County households was $47,686, and median home prices soared to over $240,000 across the county. The presence of affordable single-family homes and multi-family homes in the county further complicates this challenge, creating a need for more affordable housing options.
Through the development of new partnerships with state and local agencies, nonprofits, and city and county governments, MCC will support broader efforts to alleviate the shortage of affordable housing across the county. Created an introductory carpentry course.
The university’s CTE department and corporate training office have partnered with ARIZONA@WORK and other workforce partners to deliver an NCCER-approved curriculum of the fundamental skills needed to work in the construction industry.
Those attending the orientation meeting will also have the opportunity to see if they are eligible for partial or complete carpentry courses through ARIZONA@WORK.
