Mojave County – Jasmine Garcia, a student at the Mojave Community College Lake Havasu Campus, was elected to serve on the international board of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor (PTK) Association. She is Vice President of Division IV, one of the highest leadership positions a student can achieve within the organization. She is the first person from Northwest Arizona to achieve this level of status.
Garcia’s responsibilities include serving as an ambassador, hosting the PTK Regional Institute and Annual Conference, giving speeches and workshops at regional conferences, writing articles, participating in local chapter activities, and sharing her story. It is included.
“I am extremely honored and grateful to be the first PTK member affiliated with the International Secretariat in the history of the MCC,” she said. “I hope I can inspire others at my university and other universities to aim for stardom and take risks, even if they come from inactive chapters.”
At MCC, I am Treasurer of the PTK Alpha Chi Chi Chapter, President of the Student Activities Council, and Vice President of the Arts Club. From 2023 she will be her PTK President on the Lake Havasu campus through 2024. She is working towards an associate’s degree in mathematics. After MCC, she plans to continue her education at Arizona State University.
When she looked into the position, she found that she decided it would benefit her greatly as a student leader. Holding the title of International PTK Officer, she supports local chapters through initiatives such as university projects, Honors in Action projects, and PTK Connect.
Her PTK advisors Pamela Galovich and Bhaskar Singh assisted her throughout the process. Campus administrators also helped her practice speeches and keep clams during the process.
She will retain her position for the 2023-2024 academic year. She played against her four other students from California and Washington. Garcia was introduced to her new role at her PTK annual conference in Columbus, Ohio.
