McClain To Replace Stefanik As House GOP Conference Chair

Michigan Republican Rep. Lisa McClain secured the role of House Republican Conference chair in a vote Wednesday, making her the highest-ranking Republican woman in the next Congress.

McClain decisively defeated Republican Florida Rep. Kat Cammack, securing a 146-67-1 vote, with one vote going to Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Politico ) reportedThis is based on a source close to the voting process. McClain, who was elected to Congress in 2020, actively campaigned with Republican leaders this year.

Previous Detroit News reported McClain, a two-term congressman from Bruce Township, plans to announce his candidacy for chairman of the House Republican Conference on Monday. She will replace New York Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who is leaving the party to join the incoming Trump administration. President Trump has selected Stefanik to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, one of his first major appointments since winning last week’s election.
