Mojave County, Arizona — A man from El Mirage was recently revealed to be implicated in the killing of two people in Kingman last summer. Mojave County Sheriff’s Office.
Daniel M. Avila, 25, is suspected of involvement in the deaths of Darren Van Houten, 50, and Retta Atkins, 73, who were found dead at the Kingman residence on June 28, 2022.
Avila was arrested in February on suspicion of breaking into a residence in Tempe. During his arrest, Avila was allegedly in possession of the firearm linked to the deaths of Van Houten and Atkins based on ballistic analysis.
According to MCSO, Avila also has a scar on her left shoulder, which is consistent with the suspect’s wound during the double murder.
According to the MCSO, Avila has no known relationship to Kingman or the victim.
Investigators had previously linked the double homicide to a 26-year-old man who died by suicide last October. Stated.
Detectives recently issued an arrest warrant for Avila, according to MCSO. Avila’s Tempe criminal charges are still pending in court.
