PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a suspect in a 2008 sexual assault case involving a 13-year-old girl after he was identified by DNA evidence.

The victim, whose name was not released, did not live until her arrest, MCSO said in a press release Monday. three years ago.

A teenage girl was allegedly lured into her bedroom during a party in June 2008 and sexually assaulted by two men. She only knew the perpetrators, Alex and Ryan.

Investigators from the MCSO Special Victims Unit were unable to identify a suspect, and the case was deactivated in 2009 after the victim said he did not want to continue participating.

MCSO submitted anecdotal evidence for analysis in 2017 after receiving a grant to process untested sexual assault kits. His DNA in a man was found in the evidence and entered into a national DNA database known as CODIS.

The case was reopened after 33-year-old Alexander Rzeczycki was identified with a possible DNA match in August 2018.

The MCSO ultimately took the case to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and presented it to a grand jury. A grand jury indicted Dzeczycki and issued an arrest warrant for him in April.

According to the MCSO, Rzeczycki was arrested Wednesday and has been jailed for one count of having sex with a minor.

Investigators are still looking for a second suspect. Those with information about the case were asked to contact the MCSO at 602-876-TIPS (8477) at the designation “IR08-112002” .
