Med School Trains Students To Treat ‘Transgender Children’

According to the school’s website, Loyola University Chicago’s Stretch Medical School is offering a course that teaches students how to provide “evidence-based” treatment for “transgender children.”

The medical school offers “family medicine” course During the 2023-2024 school year, it will teach medical students about topics related to treating transgender children and patients, such as hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery, the description said. As part of the course, the students will reportedly visit a clinic frequented by LGBTQ+ patients.

“The goal of this elective is to teach students the evidence-based treatment of LGBTQ+ patients in medicine,” the course description reads. “Themes include, but are not limited to: health disparities, mental health, initiation and maintenance of PrEP, initiation and maintenance of hormone therapy in transgender patients, transgender children/adolescent health care, gender reassignment surgery.”

According to the course description, the course aims to teach students to “feel comfortable discussing the pros and cons of different treatments and approaches to LGBTQ+ health with patients and colleagues.” The duration is two weeks from February to March 2024 and will be evaluated on a pass/fail basis. Course supervisors Dr. Camilla Larsen and Dr. Eugene Lee advise According to the university’s website, the medical student body Strich Pride aims to “promote a diverse, inclusive and equitable school environment and raise awareness of health issues related to LGBTQ+ people.” It is said that it is aiming.
