SiriusXM's Megyn Kelly and The Independent reporter Glenn Greenwald on Wednesday slammed Brian Stelter as “Mr. Potato Head” and criticized his return to CNN as chief media analyst.
Stelter Announced Kelly took to social media on Tuesday to announce her return to the network after her longtime CNN show was canceled in August 2022. During an episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Kelly began by slamming Stelter for returning to CNN.
“Speaking of Russia, Russia, Russia, Russia, guess who CNN rehired? Hall monitor Brian Stelter is back at CNN because apparently CNN looked at their dumpster fire ratings and thought, 'Hmm, what's the solution to this? I came up with it, Mr. Potato Head!'” Kelly said.
Greenwald then criticized the agency for trying to “be neutral” when “everyone knows it's not neutral.” (RELATED: Brian Stelter announces return to CNN)
“I want to take this opportunity to recall one of the funniest moments in media news history, which is when CNN decided it would be a good idea to create a CNN+ streaming service where people had to pay to watch people that no one wanted to watch for free, even though no one was watching their network,” Greenwald said.
“Then it was shut down 21 days after it opened and it disappeared because nobody was interested. That was the Brian Stelter era. But what you say is so important: I mean, one of the reasons CNN has lower ratings than MSNBC, let alone Fox, is because CNN is like a lite version of MSNBC, pretending to be neutral but everybody knows it's not,” Greenwald continued. “That's why even Stephen Colbert's audience laughed at the idea that CNN was objective.”

Greenwald suggested that CNN has “a lot of pure partisan talent” but chose Stelter because he had previously “stand out as an obsessive DNC anti-Trump wing,” and that “that's why he ended up being fired.”
Kelly then said Stelter “has never been a journalist” and criticized current CNN CEO Mark Thompson for describing Stelter as “one of the world's foremost experts on media commentary.”
“Right? Mark, have you actually seen Brian? Actually, he probably did. But he was at The New York Times, so it was like, 'Yeah! Great job again, keep it up,'” Kelly continued. “And then when he got to CNN, he said, 'You know what? We're missing that important objective voice in Brian Stelter.'”
Stelter's previous show, “Reliable Sources,” was canceled nearly two years ago by then-CNN president Chris Licht, who was replaced by the current CNN president in August 2023. Mark ThompsonFormer chief executive of The New York Times and former director general of the BBC.
