Mehdi Hasan announced Sunday that he is leaving MSNBC permanently, just weeks after it was announced that his show had been canceled.
Hasan told viewers on the final episode of “The Mehdi Hasan Show” that today was also his last day on MSNBC.
“It has been so much fun to do this live on MSNBC for the past three years, with the help of an amazing team of producers, and with you watching at home… But now, as the election approaches and 2024 begins, But the war is still on, and there are too many Trump trials to even keep track of to be honest, but with this show coming to an end, I decided it was time to look for a new challenge. “Tonight is not only the final episode of 'The Mehdi Hasan Show,' but also my last day on MSNBC,” Hasan said. “Yes, I have decided to resign. Let me be clear: I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished with this show on this network, and I appreciate your viewing, your support, and your feedback. I can't thank you enough for that. But as they say, a new year calls for new plans.”
In November, the station announced it would cancel Hasan's program and expand Ayman Mohieruddin's program to two hours instead.
Hasan has recently come under fire for his views on the Israel-Hamas war, frequently blaming Israel for the rise of Hamas.
Back in 2009, Hasan called non-Muslims “animals” and compared homosexuals to “pedophiles” and “sexual deviants.”
More recently, Mr. Hasan faced backlash when he sought to diminish the scale of the September 11 terrorist attacks by equating the 1973 overthrow of the Chilean government with the needlessly deadly attack.
