Merrick Garland Downplays Corruption Concerns After Bombshell Whistleblower Testimony

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday downplayed corruption concerns stemming from a bomb whistleblower’s testimony in the Hunter Biden case.

The House Ways and Means Committee has released testimony from two IRS whistleblowers who allege Garland and Director Daniel Warfel lied to Congress about their political intervention in the Hunter Biden tax fraud case.

Garland downplayed concerns about corruption, saying the allegations were an “attack” on vital democratic institutions.

“I certainly understand that some are trying to attack the integrity of the Department of Justice, its members and employees by claiming that we do not treat cases the same way. constitutes an attack on an institution vital to our democracy and vital to the security of the American people. It cannot be different from the truth.”

One of the whistleblowers, Gary Shapley, claimed the IRS violated its normal investigative procedures to benefit Biden. Shapley oversaw a tax probe into Hunter Biden.

Shapley said Garland lied about political interference in the Biden investigation and the Justice Department refused to follow up on incriminating messages between Biden and Chinese businessman Henry Chao. claimed to have done so. Mr Biden allegedly threatened Mr Zhao, saying, “I will stay with his father to make him regret not complying.” [his] direction. “

Biden reached an agreement with federal prosecutors to plead guilty to illegally purchasing firearms and violating tax laws in 2017 and 2018, but did not receive a prison sentence.
