Mesa father charged with killing son

YUMA, Arizona — Mesa’s father has been charged with first-degree murder for the murder of his teenage son.

of Yuma County Sheriff’s Office A news release said 36-year-old Jose Gallardo had been arrested in connection with the death of Tempe’s son Mario Nez, 19.

An investigation into Nez’s death began Monday when he was found along the shoulder of the road near Mile Marker 65 on Interstate 8. Officials said Nez had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A collision occurred near Mile Marker 54 on I-8 around the same time that Nezu’s body was discovered. Investigators found that one of his vehicles involved in the crash was also involved in the murder.

Investigators began searching the crash site, believing that the suspect, now identified as Gallardo, was still in the area and traveling on foot. The suspect was in the desert near Mile Marker 54 and was arrested.
