Met Live Opera ‘Die Zauberflöte’ on screen in Sedona June 3 and 7

sedona news – The Mary D. Fisher Theater is honored to continue to be home to the 2022-2023 season of the MET Live Opera Program hosted by the Sedona International Film Festival. The season will conclude with Wolfgang’s live performance of Amadeus Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ by simulcast from 10am on Saturday 3rd June and encore his presentation on Wednesday 7th June at 3pm.

Ed Ingraham will lead a pre-opera talk one hour before the show on Saturday, so come early.

For the first time in 19 years, one of opera’s best-loved works will return to the MET. With a bold vision by renowned British director Simon McBurney, The Wall Street Journal called it “the best Mozart opera I have ever seen.” Natalie Stutzmann conducts the Metropolitan Orchestra, raising the pit to allow the audience to see the musicians and interact with the cast. In his debut production of The MET, McBurney unleashed a flurry of theatrical flair, incorporating projection, sound effects and acrobatics to match the spectacle and drama of Mozart’s fables. The stellar cast includes soprano Erin Morley as Pamina, tenor Lawrence Brownlee as Tamino, Met-debut baritone Thomas Olimans as Papageno, soprano Kathryn Lueck as the Queen of the Night. and bass player Stephen Milling as Sarastro.

The MET Live Opera, Die Zauberflöte, will premiere on Saturday, June 3 at 10:00 am (simultaneously televised) at the Mary D. Fisher Theater, with an encore on Wednesday, June 7 at 3:00 pm. One hour before the Saturday simulcast. Tickets are $25 for general, $22 for film festival members, and $15 for students.
