Michael Kay Is About To See His Iconic 37-Year Streak With Yankees Come To An End, And He’s ‘Red-Hot’ About It

I can’t say I blame Michael Kay. As a baseball fan, I’m disappointed.

for 37 consecutive seasonsthe legendary broadcaster broadcast the New York Yankees on Opening Day. He began his career as a sports writer for the New York Post in 1987 and eventually moved into radio in 1992. Then in 2002, he moved into television, covering Pinstripes for the YES Network.

Things were smooth sailing for Kay, but after nearly 40 years, she finally ran into a problem. The Yanks’ 2025 season opener against the Milwaukee Brewers will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN. In other words, Kei may not be able to participate in the team’s first opening game in 37 years.

Initially, Kaye found out that ESPN would broadcast the contest and said he would be “red hot” if it meant the YES Network would not broadcast the game. (Related: Rays cancel plans for new stadium, deepening dilemma… Will they consider moving to Las Vegas this time?)

“If it’s exclusive, [to ESPN] I’m going to cry,” Kay said.

And then his worst nightmare came true.

“This is what I heard from someone in the know. It’s 100 percent exclusive,” Kaye said.

If I were Michael Kay, I’d be furious too. Because the reality is, you know your iconic 37-year incredible streak is coming to an end because of GREEN PAPER. And that makes you realize even more…that’s what this cold world is all about.

The filthy spoils ended a historic winning streak.
