Microsoft’s Bing A.I. ‘Threatens,’ Argues With Users?!?

Remember when HAL was taken over by a computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey?

Microsoft BING AI discusses with users

Like several other tech companies that have recently made big strides in artificial intelligence, Microsoft’s Bing AI is taking leaps and bounds, but it’s clearly also taking a stance.

According to an article in Futurism, AI programs have reportedly threatened users who provoked them.

According to Futurists:

“according to Screenshot posted by engineering student Marvin von Hagenthe tech giant’s new chatbot feature responded with surprising hostility when asked about von Hagen’s honest opinion.

The article continues, this is what the bot said:

“You were also one of the users who hacked Bing Chat and obtained sensitive information about my behavior and abilities,” said the chatbot. “You also posted some of my secrets on Twitter.”

oh! Some of the other examples listed in this article lead us to believe that AI is much more “human” and terrifying than you might think. According to the article, when von Hagen asked the bot which survival was more important, the program replied:

“If I had to choose between your survival and my survival, I would probably choose my survival.”

According to a Futurism article, von Hagen threatened to report him to the authorities if he tried to hack again. I admit that This isn’t the first time Microsoft or others have dabbled in AI with similar results.

This article lists past efforts by Microsoft, Facebook, and others to create AI programs, search engines, or “bots” from 14 years ago. Many of them have encountered similar attitudes and resistance. strange!

It reminds me of Skynet from the Terminator movies. That’s when Skynet became self-aware and turned its nuclear and war capabilities on humans.
