Palantir CEO to Attend Major GOP Donor Event
A report from Friday indicates that Alex Karp, the co-founder and CEO of Palantir Technologies, is set to attend a prominent donor event for Rep. Mike Johnson in August.
Karp, a key figure in the tech industry, recently spoke at a Republican gathering in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There, he discussed the theme of “growth vs. gridlock” with influential GOP supporters, as highlighted by a source.
It appears Karp is engaging with Republican donors, yet he’s also been a contributor to both party candidates in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. Interestingly, Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale has contributed to Elon Musk’s Super PAC for the same election cycle, according to reports.
Palantir has already invested around $3 million in lobbying efforts, as seen in data from Open Secrets. Recently, the company announced a significant $10 billion contract with the U.S. Army, aimed at utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance database management within the military.
Despite its achievements, Palantir has faced criticism, particularly regarding its previous Democratic ties. Allegations surfaced in 2023 about its tools allegedly contributing to the rise of far-right movements in Europe.
Moreover, concerns have been voiced by figures like Steve Bannon, who warned that Palantir’s collaborations with government entities might foster a “surveillance state.” The company has also attracted protests from the left, particularly after agreeing to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with new tools to support deportation efforts, resulting in demonstrations outside its Manhattan offices.
Alongside Karp, several notable speakers are scheduled for the event, including Energy Director Chris Wright, who will address energy control, and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, participating in discussions about the “One Big Beautiful Bill” initiative.
A panel on defense, technology, and homeland security will feature prominent figures like Catherine Boyle from Andreesen Horowitz and Republican representatives from New York and Virginia. Discussions will also cover upcoming midterm elections, with involvement from the Congressional Leadership Fund Chairman and other state leaders.
Attempts to confirm Karp’s participation through Johnson’s office did not elicit a response.
