Mike Leerar seeks another term as District 3 Commissioner – Yuma Pioneer

Written by Mike Lehrer

I am proud to announce that I am running for re-election as Yuma County Commissioner for District 3. It has been my privilege to serve you as a member of the County Commission since 2022, and I look forward to continuing the progress we have made together.

For almost my entire adult life, I have called Yuma County home. Since marrying his wife Jeannie in 1989, we have been deeply rooted in this community and invested in its growth and prosperity.

My tenure as a County Commissioner has been dedicated to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of county operations. One of our key achievements during this time has been improving the efficiency of road and bridge grader operators, an area of focus for the Board. He brings valuable insight to the table with his experience managing a farm equipment store in Northeast Colorado and overseeing multi-million dollar budgets and personnel. Rehiring court staff through monthly directors' meetings is critical. Departments share best practices and needs, fostering a collaborative and productive environment. Additionally, I am proud of our ability to keep the county budget balanced despite facing revenue challenges, particularly the decline in state-mandated property tax revenues over the past two years.

In addition, my 10 years as a Trustee and Mayor of the Town of Eckley gave me a comprehensive understanding of the City's financial methodology. In addition, his 14-year involvement with Plains Telephone as a board member was instrumental in expanding the company's telecommunications services to include Burlington and Lae.

I am deeply committed to rural advocacy and have served on the Yuma County Water Board's staff for all but two years since its inception. Additionally, Jeannie and I, along with another partner, have owned and operated Eclectic Bar & Grill for over six years with her, further strengthening our ties to our community.

Yuma County holds a special place in my heart and I am dedicated to preserving its values and identity. As Commissioner, I have worked tirelessly to protect local interests and ensure our county remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

But I can't do this alone. We need your support to continue to represent your voice on the County Commission. Together, we can protect the values that make Yuma County unique and rich.

We look forward to your vote and support in the next election. Let's work together to keep Yuma County strong and vibrant. If you have any questions, please contact us [email protected] or 970-630-5683. Follow my campaign by liking Mike Leerar, Yuma County Commissioner, on Facebook.
