Selected items from the Mojave Military Museum have been officially delivered to the City of Lake Havasu.
This summer, the nonprofit will set up a permanent exhibit at the Lake Havasu Senior Center, displaying a selection of military artifacts throughout the year. The exhibit consists of glass cabinets donated by local Rotary club donors, says museum director and curator Trudy Hernandez.
Hernandez said the cooperation came about when museum officials discussed the possibility of a military exhibit at the center. The new director of the center, Jamie Rogers, and the board of directors met for the first time last summer and agreed to set up a collection this year.
“We are working with senior centers to not only bring U.S. military exhibits to their communities, but also to create exhibits that exude a sense of proud history that can be housed in the beautiful furnishings of their centers. We made it available,” Hernandez said.
As with previously expanded exhibits, curated items rotate frequently, providing visitors with an array of memorabilia.
Ahead of Veterans Day, which is celebrated annually on November 11, the museum’s partnership with the center will provide early access to “genuine personal items, photographs, documents and (and) books,” Hernandez said. To tell.
Later, the museum will present the military exhibit, “What So Proudly We Hail,” in time for the fall federal holidays.
Hernandez added that materials dating back to World War I were made available to the public as they strive to educate the community about military history. The purpose of the nonprofit, she continues, is to provide surrounding communities with access to original military artifacts.
