Michelle Obama and Julia Louis-Dreyfus Discuss Challenges Facing American Women
On Wednesday’s podcast, former First Lady Michelle Obama and actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus expressed their frustrations about the struggles of being an American woman. Democrat strategist James Kerrville remarked that on Tuesday, Democrats seemed to disregard male voters while trying to support women. Both Obama and Louis-Dreyfus discussed the unfair challenges women face, emphasizing the need for men to recognize these issues.
Obama pointed out, “Women, we have so many mines and barriers, and obstacles and restrictions. So, Craig, you’re a guy at the table, but I think it’s important for all men, especially those raising daughters, to understand these rules that make us smaller.”
In response, Dreyfus shared her own experiences, reflecting, “We baked it without knowing it… I remember people saying, ‘Oh, well, she’s a female doctor.’ But she is a doctor.”
Kerrville noted some prevailing narratives about women in American culture, such as “The future is women” and “We must believe that women are never wrong,” which he feels might alienate men. He mentioned a reaction from men feeling overlooked, suggesting their concerns aren’t being counted in the broader discussions.
Former Democrat Senator Nina Turner from Ohio pointed out the unsettling reality that predominantly male lawmakers are restricting women’s rights, particularly regarding their bodies. “It’s very disturbing that there are mostly male legislators who have decided that women can’t control their bodies,” she said, emphasizing her concern regarding access to medical care and financial security for women.
